The 2nd day of careers in environmental engineering was held today at the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering, University of Zagreb, which gathered more than 130 participants via the online platform Zoom. The dean of the faculty, dr.sc. Hrvoje Meaški, addressed the audience with a welcoming speechand also opened the meeting.
As part of the Career Day, students were introduced to renowned companies operating in the field of environmental engineering and students were provided with “first hand” information about the possibilities of professional practice during their studies, but also later employment. This year’s Career Day was attended by the Green Energy Cooperative, the Regional Energy Agency North, the Plitvice Lakes National Park Public Institution, the Croatian Geological Institute, the State Hydrometeorological Institute and the companies Green Technologies, Premifab, Gumiimpex, Solvis and Plinacro. Students presented themselves to employers through a poster section with 12 graduate and final theses, 2 rector’s awards and 1 conference professional paper.
This Career Day aroused great interest of students who, through direct communication with company representatives, got acquainted with the current situation on the labor market in Croatia, but also examined the possibilities of professional practice and writing their own final and diploma theses in cooperation with present companies. At the same time, employers gained a better insight into the knowledge and competencies acquired by students of the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering by completing undergraduate and graduate studies in Environmental Engineering.
As part of the Career Day activities, a career counseling workshop was held, through which students were introduced to ways to look for a job, create a CV and applications, and how to prepare for an interview with the employer. More than 80 students took part in the activities of the workshop conducted by the advisors of Job Club Varaždin.
Career Day was held as part of the project “Acquisition of key practical skills in the field of environmental engineering.” As part of the same project, the Career Development Center was established at the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering in September, for which this event is also the first activity he organized. The co-organizers of this year’s Career Day were the Croatian Society of Geotechnical Engineers, the Association of Graduates and the Student Union of the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering, and the Croatian Society for Environmental Engineering. Additional information about the event is available on the Career Day website, and the Career Day brochure can be downloaded here.
